Why Using Your Domain Name for your Business Email is a MUST!

Wednesday, May 31st, 2017

Changing your email from a generic someemail@verizon.net to something like bob@bobslandscaping.com might seem like a big task, but the benefits far outweigh the temporary inconvenience and can save you from headaches down the road. Here’s 5 reasons why using your Domain Name for your Business Email is a MUST!

  1. Professional & Informative

By using an email like someemail@ptd.net it could literally be anyone sending an email, but using bob@bobslandscaping.com shows that you’re an actual business.  The recipient possibly now knows your first name and what your business does.

  2. It’s FREE advertising for your business website!

Think of how many emails you send a day.  Every time you DON’T use your business email you lose out on an opportunity for your business domain name to be embedded into clients/potential clients minds.  Using someemail@verizon.net does not advertise your business but  jill@poconosbestbagels.com does.  You can advertise and promote your website for FREE without spending a dime!

  3. Spam FREE

Don’t be mistaken for spam!  When using a generic email address it’s easy to be overlooked as a spammer.  People get hundreds of emails a day and you don’t want to get lost in the shuffle, stand out!

  4. Avoid Ex-Employee Drama

If your employees are using non-domain name emails for your business, it can become a sticky situation and possibly a liability if they ever move on.  When you use emails with your domain name even if you assign a personal email for example sally@poconosbestbagles.com, if that employee ever decides to leave you can simply forward that email address to your own email address (or another employee).  This makes the transition seamless for both your business and your clients.

  5. Stuck With Your Service Provider

When you use your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for your email address, for example someemail@ptd.net, if your ISP goes out of business or you ever decide to discontinue service, it can become an issue.  Sometimes you can continue to pay your old ISP just for that email address, but if you can’t, you are stuck having to restart with a brand new email!  This can become a difficult task and a bit of a nightmare to be forced to update your business cards, promotional materials, etc. all with a new email address.  It can also cause you to lose potential clients that send emails to an email address that you no longer have access to.  It is more likely that you will keep your domain name then your ISP throughout the course of your business.  Your domain name emails can stay with you forever (as long as you choose to keep renewing your domain/hosting), even if you move across the country!

So how do you get an email address @yourdomainname.com?  It’s easy!  Just contact your hosting provider to set this up for you.  At WebLeaps we include a number of email addresses in our hosting packages, if you’re using a different provider they often charge additional fees on top of your hosting fee, so be sure to inquire and check the fine print!
