You have a website, now what? Like any investment, it should be maintained and updated. As a promotional tool and the face of your business online, you always want to put your best foot forward. Your website is the one place on the internet where you have complete control of the information that you provide to your customers, and you know that your website will never be removed or changed unless you want it to be.
So, how often should you update your website? And what should you update? These are great questions and can vary depending on your business. There is no exact formula, and it can range from daily to yearly, but we provide a general schedule.
Daily updates – If you have frequent information, including making blog/news posts, or need to add/remove products from your store.
Monthly updates – If you do not need daily updates, monthly updates are a good starting point to ensure frequent updates like a monthly blog post, specials/coupons for that month, or holidays.
Quarterly Updates – If you do not have enough changes for daily or monthly updates, quarterly updates are one of our most frequently used by customers. It is a great way to usher in a new season, completely refresh the look through updated photos/graphics/colors, swap out seasonal services, etc.
Yearly Updates – At the very least, once a year, you should be doing a review of all of the information on your website. What services do you no longer provide? What new services are you offering? Did your years in business change? Did you get any new reviews in the past year that can be added to the website? Do you have new photos of projects that can be added to your gallery?
Interim Updates – Sticking to a schedule is ideal and helps to keep updates on track, but sometimes there will be updates that will need to be done periodically, including products/services that need to be removed, reviews that need to be added, etc.
Every 2-3 years – A complete redesign! Sometimes this can be pushed off for 5 years, but over our years in business doing this, that window of time gets shorter and shorter as technology is improved. To make sure that you have a modern website and up-to-date features, 2-3 years is the sweet spot for a redesign.
